LIKE THE FIRST GRADER, another well crafted and beautifully photographed film, on actual locations, that deserved a far-wider release. This time we are in New Zealand, where Winstone plays a Boer War veteran paid by the British to track down a Maori sailor and alleged murderer. Not surprisingly, he discovers he has far more in common with the pursued than with his employers. Winstone and Morrison (who starred in Once Were Warriors, still one of the best films we have ever shown) are both excellent in a very solid and underrated historical drama.
