Director: Samuel Maoz. With Yoav Donat, Itay Tiran, Oshri Cohen

IT IS JUNE 1982 and the opening 24 hours of the First Lebanon War. Just one Israeli tank, manned by four inexperienced conscripts, is deployed alongside a small army unit. Their objective is to search a hostile town already bombed by the Israeli Air Force, but Christian- Arab Phalangists, a captured Syrian soldier and the mind games of potentially deadly close combat make the mission far from straightforward. It took writer-director Maoz 25 years to exorcise his own demons and make Lebanon how he wanted. Plaudits from the likes of Ang Lee, the Golden Lion at the 2009 Venice Film Festival and favourable comparisons with the legendary Das Boot, make it well worth the wait.
