Director: Peter Duffell With Michael York, Peter Finch, Hildegard Neil, Michael Hordern
WE HOPE THAT PETER DUFFELL WILL ATTEND THE SCREENING.
GERMANY, THE 1930s. A sponging Englishman (York) becomes involved, through his sister, with a shady financier. The excellent cast (York, between Cabaret and The Three Musketeers, was at his peak; Finch had Network to come) is a joy to watch, in an unusual and striking character piece, rarely seen outside the occasional festival revival. A great shame – author Graham Greene, suspicious of most adaptations of his work, liked this a lot; testimony to the skills of co-writer and director Peter Duffell.
